The course is aimed at those who wish to demonstrate their competence in the signing of Emergency Lighting Design Certificates or for Electrical Contractors who wish to Design, Install and Commission their own smaller installations. It focuses on content that is not relevant to Commissioners and relevant to Designers only.
Who should attend
Those who have already completed the Emergency Lighting Commissioning Award 6S0953 can progress to the Design award with one day’s training and the completion of a Design project. For those who only wish to do Design, we offer this by special arrangement over 4 Days.
Why should I attend
You should attend because qualification means that you have demonstrated your knowledge, skills and competence in system design and can sign declarations of compliance that can be trusted commercially and by the regulatory authorities. Maybe you already commission systems but want to add design to your skillset.
It is assumed here that learners have already completed the fundamentals module as part of the commissioning award. At the end of this training participants will be able to:
- Use design tools to determine photometric performance: spacing tables, manual calculations, design software.
- Assess the need for emergency lighting in particular locations by using risk criteria.
Risk assessment, Design Procedures
Photometric calculations for lux level requirement on floors and working planes
The Design Award is achieved by passing the Fundamentals module (as part of Commissioners Award) and the Design module. The Design module is assessed by submission of a project completed within 6 weeks of the course delivery.
- The Pass mark for this Life Safety system is 70%.

We had Derek come into our office to provide our electrical technicians with QQI level 6 emergency lighting training. The training content along with Derek's knowledge and passion made this course very enjoyable. All our guys are now much more competent in the world of emergency lighting. I would highly recommend this course to anyone involved in the testing of emergency lighting systems.
